MENLO PARK, Calif., – November 18, 2014 – Gaurav Garg, a founding partner at Wing, was honored as the Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist of the Year at the Technology Fast 500 Awards in recognition of his proven record of leadership in discovering and building new businesses in growing industries. This year’s event, sponsored by Cooley LLP, Cresa, Deloitte, NetSuite, RGP, Silicon Valley Bank and Wells Fargo, was held at The Computer History Museum, in Mountain View, California on November 12, 2014.

Joining forces with venture capital luminary Peter Wagner to co-found Wing in 2013, Gaurav applied his decades of experience building billion-dollar-plus enterprises from concept stage as an operator and investor towards creating a new kind of venture capital firm. Wing invests in a small number of companies focused on business technology markets with maximum resources dedicated to the success of each.

After founding Redback Networks in 1996 and leading it through a successful IPO, Gaurav began his investment career in 2001, making many notable investments in disruptive enterprise technologies. In the past 24 months alone, he helped guide three of these companies—Ruckus Wireless, FireEye and MobileIron—to successful IPOs. As he develops Wing’s selective investments in new companies, Gaurav takes an unabashedly long-term view of each company’s development: he has served on half a dozen boards for more than seven years and on some for longer than 10 years.

Gaurav shares his passion for company building with the academic community and was recently recognized by his alma mater, Washington University in St. Louis, with their 2014 Alumni Achievement Award for entrepreneurial leadership and guidance to the engineering community.

“There’s nothing better than working side by side with individuals and teams who are reinventing what possible means. Together we have built companies that not only deliver outsized value to the market but the kinds of positive impact that only healthy, successful companies with a long-term view can bring to their employees, customers and communities,“ said Gaurav Garg. “It’s an honor to be recognized by The Technology Fast 500 for this work. As the data, mobile and cloud transformation continues to take shape, the Wing team and I will do whatever it takes to discover, develop and support the next wave of entrepreneurs committed to the highest caliber of innovation and execution in business technology.”

“I also would like to extend my congratulations to MobileIron, the leader in enterprise mobility management, on being recognized by the Technology Fast 500 as the number one fastest-growing technology company in North America over the past five years,” continued Garg. “I have had the pleasure of working with MobileIron’s remarkable team since 2008 and it is incredibly rewarding to see them reach this rare milestone.”
