We're thrilled to welcome Tyson Mao to Wing Venture Capital as Head of AI! 🎉
We first got to know Tyson in 2023 when we evaluated Tobiko Data, where he was co-founder and CEO. Tobiko built SQLMesh, the open source data transformation framework that teams adopted as an alternative to dbt, and was later acquired by Fivetran. Tyson is also a Caltech astrophysics graduate.
At Wing, Tyson will lead our efforts to apply AI across the firm, from how we find and engage founders early to how we support our companies as they grow. It's an advantage that spans the full lifecycle of the venture business.
Beyond his work in data and AI, Tyson is a Rubik's Cube legend. He co-founded the World Cube Association, set a 3x3 blindfolded world record, created the beginner method featured in The Pursuit of Happyness, and has appeared on Leno and Good Morning America. Today he's working to bring cubing into schools. He also co-founded a restaurant, is active in magic circles, and plays the violin.
