2017 witnessed a Cambrian explosion of new cryptoasset projects and a commensurate interest in the space by entrepreneurs, investors, institutions and governments. In January 2017, the combined market cap of all cryptoassets was ~$17bn. Today, it is ~$570bn. Bitcoin ($190bn) and Ethereum ($115bn) have led the way, but new decentralized protocols are being launched every week. Amidst the rapid pace of innovation in cryptoassets, we wanted to put together a primer, Blockchain 101.
