I’m pleased to share that Dr. Ansuman Satpathy has joined our team as venture partner, helping us and founders shape the future of health and medicine.

In addition to being a successful multi-time bio founder and beloved part of Wing’s founder family already, Ansu is a professor in immunology at Stanford and has authored countless publications in top medicine publications (Nature, Cell, you name it). He’s a physician with an M.D. and Ph.D. in immunology from Washington University in St. Louis, and completed his clinical residency and postdoctoral training in genetics at Stanford University.

I feel lucky to have known Ansu for years and consider him a friend—one with big ideas, always grounded in a thoughtful, rational approach—and invaluable sparring partner in imagining what the world of novel medicine and health could look like.

We would trade notes and ideas often and one day, he shared a germ of an idea that got me immediately excited; that idea became Cartography, which Wing put the first check into and is now a leader at the intersection of bio and data. Since then, Ansu has co-founded several additional leading companies, all at the intersection of novel data and computation.

We’re in the midst of a massive shift in health and bio, one spurred by an explosion in novel data that enables more accurate understanding of biology and can feed machine learning algorithms to create wildly superior (precise, less toxic, curative) drugs, faster. And in healthcare, technology enabled by new business models, particularly around payor reimbursement, is revolutionizing how we access care.

It’s an exciting time to be investing out of a fresh fund to partner with founders at the earliest stages of their startup journeys. We’re thrilled to announce Ansu will be joining us bringing his founder empathy and deep domain expertise to help category-defining companies shape the future of health and medicine. Welcome, Ansu!

About Ansu

Ansu is a venture partner at Wing, where he focuses on investments at the interface of data, computation, and disease therapeutics. He is excited to partner closely with early-stage founders, including academic spin-outs, using his firsthand scientific, clinical, and founder experience to build data-driven therapeutics companies.

Ansu is a physician-scientist by training and a Professor of Pathology and Immunology at Stanford University. He is also an investigator in the Gladstone Institute of Genomic Immunology, the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, and the Stanford Cancer Institute. Ansu's academic research combines expertise in cancer biology, immunology, and high-throughput genomics and computation to discover principles of the immune dysfunction in disease and to translate these discoveries into novel clinical therapeutics. He has previously co-founded several biotechnology companies, including Cartography Biosciences (a Wing portfolio company) and Immunai.

Ansu holds a BS in molecular biology and BA in philosophy from the University of Illinois, an MD and PhD in immunology from Washington University in St.Louis, and completed his clinical residency and postdoctoral training in genetics at Stanford University.
